I'm getting my braces put on today - what can I expect?

What can I expect?

Getting braces put on can be a little scarey and you probably have a lot of questions?

-Will it hurt?
-What are all the things the clinician and dentist use to put the braces on?
-What can I eat after I have my braces put on?
-Will I know how to take care of my braces?

We asked one of our patients if she would mind if we video taped her getting her braces put on and she said that we could!  Over the next few weeks I will blog about what you can expect the day you come to our office to get your braces put on.  I hope it helps to answer some of the questions you may have.

Why do I need to wear the dark sun glasses?

Why do you use those large plastic things that stretch my lips apart?

Okay - I hope that answered a few of your questions.  Next week I will continue this blog with more clips from the video.  We will see how the individual brackets are placed on each tooth and how the wire is put in and held in place.

  1. “Will it hurt?” has always been the first question. Yeah, there will be occasional pain, but nothing that you couldn’t have handled. I’m sure you know that by now. ;) I believe getting braces is one experience where we can apply the adage “No pain, no gain.” Speaking of that, how are your teeth now?

  2. Braces do not hurt at all. They just feel uncomfortable and you have to get used them. Good luck with braces.ps what you think is pain it is actually soreness.

  3. “What can I eat after I have my braces put on? “ – This is mostly what people worry about once they already put on their braces. If you’re going to use the traditional metal dental braces, most likely your usual eating habit will be affected. However, if you’re using the Invisalign, the modern braces method, you don’t have to worry about what you will eat. I find no downside to Invisalign, actually. It may cost a a few extra bucks than the traditional method, but it would be worth it. @ Back Mountain Dental
